The American Craze for Sports

The USA is one of the biggest countries whose citizens have an immense love for sports. The country produces a multitude of superb players who earn numerous honors throughout their career. America is dominated by three big sports: football, basketball, and soccer, which are represented, respectively, by the National Football League (NFL), the National Basketball Association (NBA), and Major League Soccer (MLS).
Why are Americans so crazy for sports? Because they grow up with sports, having watched all manner of sport since their childhood. Every American teenager plays at least one sport for their school or club. As time goes by, they grow older but they still love to watch sports. Watching the games with friends while drinking beer drives them crazy and reminds them of their youth.
For the past four years, I have lived and studied in the vibrant city of Atlanta, Georgia. In this city, many people are crazy about the NFL team the Falcons, which usually perform well during the playing season. This year, I attended a Falcons game in the newly built, gigantic Mercedes-Benz Stadium, which has the capacity to host 80,000 fans. Everyone became feverish as soon as they stepped into the stadium. During the game, it seemed the fans and players were playing together. The fans cheered loudest for the team when the Falcons scored. Most of the fans trash-talked the other team’s fans when the other team scored. At that point, I felt what sport meant to Americans. They “love” sport more than anything in the world.
Although basketball has become popular in China, America is the greatest basketball country; never will any other country be able to beat American basketball players, as they have the strongest league, which is the NBA. Not only does the NBA attract all the best players from every country, but it also has the greatest value. For example, the value of the LA Lakers franchise is estimated at$3.3 billion. I believe most basketball fans adore LeBron James, because he, the number one player in the league, went to LA to play for the Lakers and got $154 million for a four-year contract. I haven’t yet had the chance to watch the big players’ games in person, but I have the wish to one day attend one.
In America, every game is a party. Sport is EVERYTHING. Americans love the game they play and they love the team they support, no matter how bad or how good that team is. This is American sport culture and this is what I enjoy.
